Quote: Actually, I think EVE is much more easily enjoyed by people who have less time to play, rather than more. The more often you play, the slower your skills will seem to train, relatively speaking. I've had very little time to play recently and have been forced to take frequent long-ish breaks by RL matters, so I just keep racking up millions of skill points (on three characters) as the weeks pass.
Right!
I've been playing this game for 3 months now. It took me about one month to figure out how it works. Enough to run missions, trade, do some pvp, fit my ship right, skill the char and so on. If you have the time to play about 25 hours a week, you are always waiting for skills to be ready. I have about 1 bil in isk and 500 mil in assets and no way to spend it the way I want. I can't buy fancy stuff for my ship, because it will be destroyed by pirates sooner or later then. A battleship worth 3 bil ISK is a nice target. As long as it just takes a small group of ppl to destroy a bs by alphadmg i won't spend the ISK. I won't by a Faction BS until the increase of dps and tank is to small right now depending on the low skills I have. Not able to spend the money I don't need more. So one could do some PVP, then right? No, because I need to train skills, to have a chance against, let's say, an other BC in a solo fight.
I like EVE for the complexity and variaty of its content. The ships and their abilities, the gameplay in Fleets. The big "problem" is that the game feels slow to me.
From my point of view the main content of the game is fighting with your ship. Sure one can trade, mine, build or manufacture, but when you look at the items ships can be fitted with and the types of the ships it's mostly spacewar.
So why is the PVE content so boring? If you can't do much PVP, because you need the skills to fit or use modules on your ship you need a decent PvE content. I can't see what dmg my drones do, so its not easy to improve the efficiency. I need 3rd party progs like eft to see where I can improve my ship. We will see how shortcuts will improve the feeling of gameplay, because in a complex multitasking game like EVE it's painful to mouseclick everything. I'm happy to fly a gallente ship, because I have to load and unload drones, use different ammo and scripts for tracking. So I actually do something in missions. Easier micromanagement and harder missions ( tactics or movements ) My alt char has a drake in which i do lvl 3's at the moment. The only thing to do is to lock targets, fire and wait years, before the missiles reach their target. I quit playing that alt, skilled all learnings to V and now ask myself what to do with it.
Options:
1) I suggest as you need all basic skills like engineering etc. for every ship you use, make these skills ship specific too, but increase the learning speed of those skills. A cruiser would be maxed out pretty fast and nice to fly.
Older players could keep their skills up to the ships they can fly right now.
2) Make PvE more unpredictable. Therefore improve the gameplay by makeing maneuvering in missions more important and give it a better "feeling". This would also improve PvP fights and make missions less boring. Let us see which damage the drones do and show their stats, when they're equipped to the ship.
Fast but more specific learning, better PvE content for those who don't like to use Excel in their freetime, too. I guess that would get more people playing the game (again).
